Onyx Publications staff will do the initial screening with final selection provided by our two
guest judges, Christopher Clancy and Becky Hinshaw, both previously published in Etched Onyx Magazine!
Christopher Clancy is the author of the 2021 dystopian thriller WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN (Montag Press). He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from American University, where he won the 2003 Myra Sklarew Award in Prose for SIGHT READING, his thesis collection of stories. His work has appeared in Alligator Juniper, Folio, Nashville Scene,Etched Onyx and Fifth Estate. In 2013, he contributed a List to McSweeney’s Internet Tendency that was later performed at Sketchfest 2017 in San Francisco as part of "The Best of McSweeney's." A regular instructor with The Porch Writers' Collective and an adjunct professor with Middle Tennessee State University, Chris lives in Nashville with his wife and daughters.
Becky Eagleton Hinshaw received her MA in English Literature and served as a college Composition faculty member for seven years. Her short stories have been published in Blood Lotus, Fifth Wednesday Journal, New Plains Review and Tulsa Review, among others, since 2009. Her short stories and novel excerpts have won several contests, and her monologues have been performed for several summers at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Before beginning her writing career, Becky served as the Director of the Dance Minor for the University of Tulsa and also worked tirelessly to promote, present and support artists through her non-profit Arts foundation, The LocalMotion Foundation, based in Oklahoma. She was privileged to serve as a judge for several years on the Oklahoma Arts Council’s Artists grant panel. Since returning to her hometown of Nashville in 2016, Becky continues her writing, and during COVID, she married David Charlson (music enthusiast and fellow published author) and started a professional gardening business. Becky is an avid reader of all types of work from literary fiction to graphic novels to poetry to Afro-fantasy. She is so thrilled to be a judge for Etched Onyx Magazine's first writing contest!
The entry fee is $11 and the deadline is November 26, 2021.
